Vine Associates, Inc. was retained by the City of Salem to prepare a Re-Use Study for the Winter Island Barracks Building. The project is funded in part by the state Massachusetts Historical Commission and the City of Salem. Vine Associates served as the Project Manager of multi-disciplined team that included an architect, an historic preservation planner and an economist.
The study, which is currently underway, is evaluating the potential to re-use this former U.S. Coast Guard Building. The study includes an assessment of the building’s structural condition, historical significance, universal access requirements and market analysis of potential uses.
The study will include suggestions for building stabilization and restoration, cost estimates for building improvements and design drawings and suggestions for programming. Two public meetings are being held to solicit public input on the study.
