VAI performed coastal and inland resource area delineations, prepared site plans and provided permitting services for this watershed improvement project. The proposed work is the replacement of a failed culvert under Atlantic Street in Gloucester, Massachusetts and the installation of stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMPs) to improve water quality in the nearby Jones River.  The replacement of the culvert should restore tidal flow and enhance passage of anadromous fish up into Sleepy Hollow Pond.  The installation of the stormwater BMPs will reduce the amount of sediment and road runoff entering the Jones River and its adjacent salt marsh. This project was part of a greater Annisquam River Restoration Project for which VAI prepared a successful $50,000 grant application for the City of Gloucester.
